Yo. I saw Miguel in concert on Friday here in Los Angeles and it reminded me of why I believe we all do what we do.
I remember watching the premiere of Miguel’s first video “Getcha Hands Up” on 106 & Park nearly ten years ago. And up until about a year ago, Miguel was unknown to most the world. But one thing he’s always had is a connection to the people who he resonates with most, the fans, the ones who were there first.
As my book released for pre-order last week for you, the reader, the one who has been with me, it’s been an interesting response. The autographed copies are limited and will be gone soon and you are showing up. Thank you. The reason I am rolling out my book in this way is because I want to come straight to the one who matters.
I can imagine Apple remembers the first person they shipped an iPhone to, or Jay Z remembers the first album he signed and who he signed it for. Those recipients are the ones who matter, the ones who get it first and influence the masses.
This is a reminder to me that the readers are the ones who matter. I don’t feel like I’m marketing my book. Instead, I am connecting. I’ve been writing my blog and talking with you for years, through many platforms. I am grateful, and thankful, and full of love, moved to tears, inspired all over again, by the support.
The reason I was able to write Get Your Life! is because it was on my heart, and it didn’t already exist, and I was the only one who could write it. Similar to how you’re the only one who should do what you do.
So when I saw Miguel this weekend, I saw myself. I saw years and years of hustle paying off. It appeared that thousands of people showed up to see Miguel. But the reason people showed up wasn’t really to see Miguel. The reason people showed up was for themselves, their enjoyment, their entertainment, and the values they share with Miguel. They showed up because of connection.
For all of us, we’re in search of our purpose, our why, our how. What we can learn from Miguel is to stick with it, build a connection, switch things up when you have to and don’t be afraid to live your truth. Your next big break depends on it.
